Professional Finishing with Emma King

Tuesday 29th July 2008

This workshop will provide you with all the necessary skills needed to give your hand knitted projects a professional finish. Techniques covered will include picking up stitches for necks and button bands, short row shaping, grafting and mattress stitch. You will be required to knit and bring with you some small stocking stitch samples which will enable you to get the most out of your day. Instructions for these will be sent to you nearer the time.

Parent & Child Workshop with Sarah Hazell

Would you like to spend a morning or afternoon with your daughter, niece, nephew or perhaps a friend's child, then come along and let them learn how to knit. You may need to learn yourself - that's possible too. If you already know then you will have the opportunity to learn a new technique of some sort.

Learn to Crochet with Sarah Hazell

This workshop is aimed at beginners. You will learn; foundation chain,doubles, trebles , how to change colour and joining a piece of work using double crochet edging. Each person receives a pack which guides them where to go next, e.g., simple scarves, corsages etc.

Bags to Knit with Emma King

This workshop is based on Emma’s books 25 Bags to Knit and 25 More Bags to Knit. Knitted bags are great fun to make and provide the perfect opportunity to experiment with yarns and colours. Come along and knit your own bag whilst trying out different techniques such as knitting with texture, colour, beads and sequins. Fun knitted flowers, frills and cords will also be shown.

Professional Finishing with Debbie Abrahams

This workshop is suitable for knitters who have knitted and finished garments before, but want to improve their skills. It will give you the chance to learn how to professionally knit and finish your garments. The finishing techniques that we will cover include:

  • Blocking and pressing;
  • Joining the shoulders by casting off the stitches together;
  • Picking up stitches around the neck;
  • Sewing in a drop-shoulder sleeve;
  • Sewing the knitted panels together using mattress stitch;
  • Sewing in the ends.

Rowan Workshop Information

The cost for workshops is £39.95 per person to include lunch and 10% discount on purchases made on the day. (The Parent and Child Workshop cost is £39.95 per pair).

Rowan Members are entitled to 5% discount on the standard workshop fee.

All workshops are held in the workshop at The Knitting Parlour.

All workshops are 10am–4pm unless otherwise stated.

Full payment must be made at time of booking. In the event of cancellation we will refund the full amount providing we can fill the place. If not, we will refund 50% of the full cost.
